ESCC Integrated Circuits Marking Anomaly
Summary
An anomaly exists concerning the marking of the ESCC Testing Level on components within the ESCC Specification System. This anomaly arises from the planned release of a new issue, Issue 2, of ESCC Generic Specification No. 9000 and the current status of the Detail Specifications for the High Speed CMOS and CMOS-B series.
Description of Anomaly
ESCC Generic Specification No. 9000 Issue 1 provides for two levels of testing severity which are designated by the letters B and C. The component marking requirements, as defined by ESCC Basic Specification No. 21700 Issue 1, reflects the proposed reduction in testing severity levels to a single level, without a letter designation, in an updated Generic. However, it clearly states (Para. 5.3) that the ESCC Component Number shall be as specified in the relevant Detail Specification.
ESCC Detail Specifications for the two series are in the process of transfer from ESA/SCC specifications with an ESCC cover sheet to ESCC specifications in a revised format. Specifications not yet transferred include the Testing Level letter in the ESCC Component Number. The transferred specifications take into account the proposed reduction to a single testing level and, therefore, do not include the Testing Level letter in the ESCC Component Number.
Accordingly, and for a number of the Detail Specifications, there will be a marking anomaly versus the applicable Detail Specification while the transfer process is ongoing.
Reason for Anomaly
The ESCC Executive consider it impractical to update the ESCC Generic Specification 9000 and all associated Detail Specifications with a single point of issue.
In consequence Users are advised as follows:
Marking
STM will include the Testing Level letter, B or C, as part of the ESCC Component Number for all lots manufactured in accordance with ESCC Generic Specification No. 9000 Issue 1.
STM will exclude a Testing Level letter from the ESCC Component Number for all lots manufactured in accordance with ESCC Generic Specification No. 9000 Issue 2 following its issue.
This will apply irrespectively of whether or not the applicable Detail Specification specifies a Testing Level letter as part of the ESCC Component Number.
Non-conformance
The ESCC Executive will not entertain this anomaly, as described and defined in this information note, as a basis for an ESCC Non-conformance.
